Thank you -- we are in a
runoff in the race for Council District 6!
I need your help! Please
keep your yard signs in your yards. You can still volunteer
and contribute.
PLEASE TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS that we have a runoff and that you support
my candidacy to work for a stronger future for our city.
Election
day will be Tuesday, December 1. If you plan to be out of town,
please vote by absentee ballot. Please spread the word to ensure that
all Liz Coyle supporters know the date of the election. Even if you
did not vote in the first round, November 3, you are still entitled
to vote in the runoff, December 1.
Representative government is truly representative when
voters and candidates speak directly to one another and actually listen
to one another. I believe in the importance of a government city,
county, state, national that puts constituents first. That belief
meant that the campaign for City Council I have run put front and center
hearing from you about the issues that matter to you, your family and
your neighbors. I heard you give voice to your priorities and your good
ideas about city government at meet-and-greets in homes all across District
6. I told you openly where I stand on the issues, too.Through
our dialogue at these neighborhood gatherings, consensus emerged.
Together, we have,
in effect, written an action agenda that I can take to City Hall to work
on for you.
Here are the high
points of the action agenda we have crafted together:
As Atlantas
population continues to grow, we should take full advantage of the opportunity
to prepare for new residents in ways that offer a better quality of
life for us all. To secure this vision of a thriving Atlanta, City Hall
first must get the basics right.
We want our tax
dollars well managed and the services we pay for delivered. I will work
to assure greater transparency and accountability throughout City Hall
so you know you are getting the value you deserve.
The City must
fix its finances through a long-range plan that addresses overwhelming
pension obligations, while identifying waste and inefficiency across
all City departments.
I propose the
City adopt zero-based budgeting practices, requiring department heads
to justify all expenses each year. The City budget then should be built
around priorities of public safety and basic service delivery.
Keeping us safe
should be the Citys highest priority. Assuring public safety takes
a multi-faceted approach, including strong leadership at the top of
the Police and Fire Departments, adequate personnel and resources, and
expanded community safety programs.
Accommodating
growth requires a plan to manage existing and forecast congestion that
balances automotive, transit, pedestrian, and bicycle transportation
modes with good land use planning.
Each of these points
deserves elaboration, and you deserve a fuller statement. Please go
to the our action agenda page where you
can read our action agenda in full.
Its not enough,
though, simply to write up the things weve discussed. I need your
vote, too. I ask for your vote. Please vote for me, Liz Coyle, for City
Council District 6. Your vote will mean that I can continue my work for
you and for our community.
Thank you.
